Sounds a lot like McCarthy, too. Same nasal whine, in a higher register (one thing you can say about Tailgunner Joe, he didn't have to worry about Low-T) with a Texas twang.
You are extremely late to this game. Even my mother noticed this last summer — looks like him, sounds like him. She thinks that he may have actually studied film clips of McCarthy.
Cruz is not, AFAIK, a chronic alcoholic, and that makes him more dangerous than McCarthy.
But, he's even crazier (as I recall, McCarthy did not have the habit of saying that every disaster he proposed and lie he told was ordained by God), so I would guess they have comparable deficiencies.
