Banned Words of 2012™: Another Update

New items in BOLD.

Because it's never too early to put the world on notice.
  1. Foodie (When I was a single gal, if a date would describe himself this way, I would run in the other direction, not because I don't enjoy good food, but because such sorts were invariably boring moralizers and/or just big pains in the ass. They also tended to treat waitstaff like shit, and this is something that drives me nuts.) (See also, No. 9.)
  2. Grand Bargain.
  3. Social Networking
  4. Tablet/eReader/iPad.
  5. Facebook/LinkedIn/FourSquare/Twitter.
  6. Tweet.
  7. Sexting.
  8. Smart Phone
  9. Amazing (when used to describe food). (See also, No. 1.)
  10. FAIL.
  11. Too Big To Fail
  12. This and this.
Put your suggestions in comments. We'll update this list as 2011 progresses.

how come everyone with a smart phone seems so incredibly dumb?

Because they're depending on their stoopid fone to be smart for them.

    This is just laziness.

Items 1-6 are all the same thing repeated over and over again. And the thing that is repeated is "I am an old person and you kids need to get off my lawn. You and your newfangled technology - back in MY day a 'social network' was something only upper-class twits from Princeton had, and WE LIKED IT!"

Not that I disagree mind you - because I am an old man and there are definitely too many kids on my goddamn lawn - but collapsing 1-6 into just "newfangled but useless gadgetry" would free up 5 more places for more banned words.

  7. I really like pansypoo's suggestion regarding Norquist and his pledge

...thinking about a Photoshop with can of spray Pledge being used as a blow torch (igniting a copy of the Constitution maybe)

    "You get..."

After over 60 years of that slime coming out of our TVs, burning holes in our heads, isn't it high time for the wooden stake?

  11. Job Creators - Pansypoo is correct, not only should it be banned but heavy fines and maybe incarceration should be levied on anyone so anal as to use the term.

  12. Good luck with this particular list.

Nos. 2, 3, 5, 7 aren't going anywhere, and I'll put big money that LinkedIn and Twitter of no. 4 survive the cut. Particularly the former, too may professionals are already linked up and I hear people talking networking through it outside professional settings like hospitals and financial buildings. As to 6, well you don't unring the bell of teen sexuality. Nor of the stick up the butt sensibility that marks all to many foodies in relation to no. 8.

Which I guess makes no 9 fully applicable to your Banned Words of 2012 list. Better luck after the election.

    ?!?!?!

I thought I suggested TBTF in 2008? Granted, it should have been on every year's list since then, but ....

Anyway, didn't see it in the 2008 list.

    Please ban "on the table".

Because when someone says "All options are on the table" what they are really saying is "We've already decided against certain options but we are too fucking wimpy to admit it and defend our position".

    Oh, fuck....

    "ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY"

This is ALWAYS used by the speaker to explain why, in a shitty economy, corporations are making record profits and the megarich are richer than ever. The next sentence is ALWAYS a demand that Congressional Democrats are wrong for opposing doing away with corporate taxes/regulations and "entitlements".

People who say this should be punched in the face repeatedly. That would cause much less suffering, pain and death than they do by serving the sociopathic plutocrats.

(Why are these so obvious they almost don't count? Do we just despair of ever being able to turn this awful shit down in our lives? Or do we just stand it like sheep in the rain, till it's rinsed the color out of our brains and we don't even notice anymore?)
