Turns out Twittertrends measures change and not volume. If a topic has a high pre-existing volume then it will score below a topic which goes from zero to something.
In other words: StonyPillow - snark. It really is about the derivatives.
Otherwise the 'trend' would be Ashton and Gaga every fucking day.
So Twittertrends only measures the first and second derivatives. Ah, it all makes sense now. Natch, natch, know what I mean, say no more.
