It's equally true that Petraeus was only metaphorically in bed with Max Boot and Robert Kagan when he gave them a tour of Afghanistan so they could write about how wonderfully things were going there.
Now that he's been found to be literally fucking his hagiographer, maybe people will take a bit more notice of his status as the most politically- and PR-conscious general since MacArthur.
