R.I.P.

One of my favorite authors, Colleen McCullough passed away.  Best known for "The Thorn Birds" (which I have not read) she was behind many excellent historical fiction works, including "Masters of Rome" series of which I am a big fan.

And yeah, considering she is one of the country's great treasures she deserved a much better obit than this.  Hard to believe from a Murdoch publication, huh?

I, and I alone, am calling it!

I guess this means, by posting this, I win.

...although I'm sure he did not know it was a game, and if he did, he did not understand the rules until the game was over and then said he knew the rules all along...and New York City sucks.

Great moment in "bravery"

Oh kudos to the Obama Administration for proposing the types of tax reform that should have been proposed when the Democrats had majorities in Congress, as opposed to now when it's all a non-accomplishable stunt. 

President Barack Obama will propose tax relief for middle class Americans and a series of tax hikes on upper earners and corporations in his State of the Union speech on Tuesday.

The cornerstone of Obama's proposal will be a $500 "second earner" tax credit to boost the fortunes of families where both spouses work, a substantial expansion of the Child Tax Credit to $3,000 per child under five, the White House said on Saturday night ahead of his seventh annual address to the nation.

The president's plan will also call for closing the trust fund loophole and raising the top capital gains tax rate to 28 percent.

Closing tax loopholes on trust funds?   Why that's pure communism!
