He described arriving in the United States from Austria in 1968 and hearing Republican presidential contender Richard Nixon debate Democratic challenger Hubert Humphrey.
"A friend who spoke German and English translated for me," he said. "I heard Humphrey saying things that sounded like socialism -- which is what I had just left. But then I heard Nixon speak. He was talking about free enterprise, getting government off your back, lowering taxes and strengthening the military.
This is a LIE. After 1960, there were NO presidential debates until 1976. It sure isn't reported as descriptive of anything other than describing a debate.
And let's face it, why in the hell would a Republican want to bring up a Nixon vs. Humphrey comparison?
If THAT election were re-run, Humphrey would clobber Nixon.
Coming up, another defense of an old progressive.
Richard Nixon, and few others for that matter, measure up to Hubert Horatio Humphrey.
