The future of the GOP

Is going to be pretty dismal as they continue to follow the alleged intellectual Newt Gingrich.

CPAC really belongs in the CCC meetings of the 1960s:

(Newt Gingrich, speaking at CPAC) blamed the residents of New Orleans' 9th Ward for a "failure of citizenship," by being "so uneducated and so unprepared, they literally couldn't get out of the way of a hurricane."

And he called for a "deep investigation" into this "failure of citizenship."

Here's the full quote:

How can you have the mess we have in New Orleans, and not have had deep investigations of the federal government, the state government, the city government, and the failure of citizenship in the Ninth Ward, where 22,000 people were so uneducated and so unprepared, they literally couldn't get out of the way of a hurricane. (emphasis original)

This, of course, is a massive re-write of history in addition to its clear racial intent. As Harry Shearer points out:

...the folks in the Ninth Ward weren't caught by a hurricane. They were surprised at 5:30 Monday morning (according to Van Heerden's timeline) by an eighteen-foot-high wall of water as their federally built flood protection structure catastrophically failed.

So the latent racism is there by slanting facts to make sure they come out against African American victims. Apparently, when it is a white middle-class person it is an act of God leading to victimhood, but when it is poor, primarily black people it is sloth. Of course, the Tancredo's of the world have the anti-Latino market cornered. Well at least they have the Mormons.

Let's see, we will permanently piss off 95% of a quarter of the population, but gain 1% of the population. Meanwhile, your desire to fight and fuck up needless wars is turning off about two-thirds of the under-30 set.

Good politics there sluggo.
