Ah, "the Intersection of Cheerleader Street & For God Sakes don't ask to see K-Lo & Kate's Pom Poms Avenue", always courageously wrong, while not courageously actually fighting.

In today's latest episode:

RE: ZAWAHIRI [Jim Robbins]
Zawahiri was basically asking for it. He had been appearing in many videos and releasing many audio statements in the past year. Each time he did this he took a risk, because there is always the possibility of tracing the origin of the statement, no matter how careful they were...

...If we got him that is.

Meanwhile, in the land of reality known as how the Bush Administration makes the world less safe by breeding resentment (and how can you say it isn't justified?)

DAMADOLA, Pakistan - Al-Qaida's second-in-command was the target of a U.S. airstrike near the Afghan border but he was not at the site of the attack, two senior Pakistani officials said Saturday. At least 17 people were killed...

"Their information was wrong, and our investigations conclude that they acted on a false information," said a senior intelligence official. His account was confirmed by a senior government official, who said al-Zawahri "was not there."

Pakistan's government was expected to formally issue its reaction later Saturday.

An AP reporter who visited the scene in Damadola village about 12 hours later saw three destroyed houses hundreds of yards apart. Villagers recounted hearing aircraft overhead moments before the attack. By their count at least 30 people died, including women and children. one destroyed house, Sami Ullah, a 17-year-old student, said he alone lost 24 of his relatives. Five women were weeping nearby, cursing the attackers.

"My entire family was killed, and I don't know whom should I blame for it," Ullah said. "I only seek justice from God."

This use of overwhelming firepower where we should be relying on human intelligence and stealth is as ineffective as it is murderous. It's one thing to have a surgical strike against bin Laden or al-Zawahiri when you KNOW they are there, its another thing to fire off a bomb to kill dozens of folks that may have nothing at all to do with anything.

In fact, by any rational definition it is murder. It isn't any less so because some Administration spokesman later says they are "sorry for any inconvenience".
