Have to Admit

There have been 266 prior popes (give or take an anti-Pope) so in approximately 2,000 years you'd think there'd been a previous Pope named Francis.  I mean there have been 8 Urbans, 5 Sixtus's (Sixti?), and 4 Sergius's (Sergiui?).

But apparently that name has been reserved for saints, crooners, scrambling QBs, guys who need to lighten up, and sterile pack animals.

Argentina's Catholic Church, and Jesuit Provincial Bergoglio were complicit in the military junta's Dirty War, where 13,000 to 30,000 leftists were "disappeared" in the name of social stability. Bergoglio chose the name Francis to give the impression he wouldn't hurt a flea.

But hey, if they'd elect an actual honest to God Nazi, you'd think a guy like Bergoglio might havethe inside track.

This bad choice is a very big deal. Mother Church is still lost, and still headed in precisely the wrong direction.

At least they didn't choose Pope Hilarius II

Billmon wrote that maybe the idea is to have all the problem priests disappear -- which is as good a reason as any I've seen.

And one addition to the people named Francis list

I've always enjoyed this web site, but I'm troubled by what seems to me a gratuitous anti-catholic predisposition. The church has it's problems, but it is and has been the biggest international force for social justice for a long time. Give it it's due.
