"No seriously, it's a sport"

I see people dressed this way at MMA fights all the time (ed. pretend I've ever been within 100 miles of one of those).

"Send in the Clowns", aka, Teabaggers on Ice. Still, wasn't the worst.

Fitting

So, the Daytona 500, which I switched to occasionally yesterday was periodically stopped because of a pothole, and I'm not just talking about the fact that Palin was there.

Well, southerners, you see you can't leave road construction in private hands.

An Age of Miracles (if you're easily impressed)

For several months I thought the miracle of the age was that we can buy a five-dollar submarine sandwich, but it appears I may have been mistaken.

After all, how awesome is it that "Not Joe" the "Not Plumber" dropped Sarah Palin from his calling circle…
Wurzelbacher touched on several different points during his speech, and many of them were surprising. He said he doesn’t support Sarah Palin anymore.

…while David Broder was there to add her to his, uh, prayer circle.

Those who want to stop her will need more ammunition than deriding her habit of writing on her hand. The lady is good.

We live in a time where Dick Cheney is still important enough to receive virtual "freedom tonguing" from Politico but he's not conservative enough for the Republican Party.

Strange but True

The Republicans have officially become too crazy for Dick Cheney, who remains fairly insane.

Pretty sure they don't know the definition of...

"News" or "All-Stars":

Fox News Sunday: National Security Adviser Gen. James Jones. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). Fox News AllStars: Bill Kristol, Ceci Connolly, Liz Cheney, Juan Williams.

But at least the McCain/Lieberman/Graham trifecta keeps up their Sunday Morning batting average (on appearances only).

Not a mental health professional

But I'm going to guess that if you're 22 and shoot and kill your brother/sister -- either on purpose or accidentally -- it's going to royally fuck you up in the future.

Ali vs. Patterson

I am catching up on my New Yorkers, which have been piling up since early January. Yesterday, I finally got to the Ken Auletta piece about Obama and the media from the January 25th issue. Ninety percent of it was stuff everyone's heard ten thousand times before, but one passage in the other ten percent struck me:

Axelrod, who was Obama's media consultant and consigliere in [the 2004 Illinois Senate] race, as he was in 2008, wrote a memo on November 28, 2006, while Obama was deciding whether to run for President or stay in the Senate. In the memo, which was revealed by Dan Balz and Haynes Johnson in their book, "The Battle for America 2008," Axelrod warned of the disturbing questions that journalists would ask: "This is more than unpleasant inconvenience. It goes to your unwillingness and ability to put up with something you have never experienced on a sustained basis: criticism. At the risk of triggering the very reaction that concerns me, I don't know if you are Muhammad Ali or Floyd Patterson when it comes to taking a punch. You care far too much what is written and said about you."

Axelrod sounds like a valuable advisor (at least in a campaign context). I wonder if he's thought about changing the date on the memo and resubmitting it to his boss since.

There were many Canadian celebrities in the Olympics Ceremonies last night

And I enjoyed the thought of the Iranian delegation pondering K.D. Lang -- but I detected many absences in the roll of Canadian honor.

First of all, no Celine Dion (thank God!) and though he's not Canadian, it's always a relief to me when Sting isn't involved in these things. But where was Shatner and Rush?

Remember all the coverage 'B-Girl' got

For her patently and eventually admitted false claims of being assaulted by a dyslectic Obama supporter?

Well, the media has generally ignored one incredible right-wing paranoid after another...and they'll add to the total by not paying attention to the latest insane Teabagging Palin-worshipper...who just happened to be stocking a small arsenal.

Unleash the wingnut talking point

If only everyone on a college campus packed heat, then psychologically disturbed people determined to unleash vengence would NEVER act on a crazy impulse -- and then everyone could just take cautionary potshots at people that acted bizarrely on campus (because that never happens).

Yes, a nice Hobbesian world where everyone could momentarily pull out a gun on you is surely the manner in which the best academic environment is created.

We'll call it Instacracker Mortuary College.

Skeevy Eliot Spitzer

Hapless (and clueless) David Paterson

Face slasher Hiram Monserrate

Craven sleazebag Pedro Espada

Execrable Rudy Giuliani

Venal Joe Bruno

Blithering idiot Pete King.

All-around Asshole Mike Bloomberg

Incompetent NY Assembly

Deviously Dysfunctional NY State Senate

Tax-avoiding social-climbing opportunist Harold Ford

And now: (Mort) Zuckerman Said to Mull Run for U.S. Senate (from NY)

I Know. I Know. I'm A Condescending Liberal.

Just too funny.

This is Just Weird

Or is it?

Stop if you've heard this one before

Bill "There's no crime I could commit that will keep me from getting a six-figure job" Kristol:

"We're going to have to have regime change in Iran even if we have to bomb it into them!"

Like I said, stop me if you've heard this one b.....

Remember when this was kind of a big deal?

This was a big story every few years when I was a kid, I remember when Ted Turner won it.

I remember when it made the front page, not just of Sports Illustrated, but also Time and/or Newsweek.

And then the U.S. finally lost, and then everybody -- but especially the Americans outrageously cheated to win it back. Now who really gives a shit?

Really brilliant

Tolerance, it only exists for millionaires

This is just disgusting, a small Muslim community is terrorized in the home state of Ernest T. Bass, ESQ (for those just joining that's Instapundit Glenn Reynolds) within a few days of a bullshit right-wing slander piece being aired.

Imagine if, say, a group of ignorant Muslims did this to a Monastery, it would be on FoxNews for about six months incessantly.

He's a blight on Ole Blighty

Aw, this is too damn bad:

During the last week and a half, Glenn Beck lost his 100th, 101st and 102nd sponsors. A full list of all 102 sponsors that dropped Mr. Beck (or Fox News as a whole) can be found here. Please note that this total includes sponsors that have dropped him both United States and/or in the United Kingdom.

It seems like our efforts are having an effect…

Glenn Beck’s show in the United Kingdom has not run any commercials during the past three days (Tues-Thurs). Glenn Beck’s show in the UK used to run commercials.
