Who knows what they were thinking? Calls for comment to campaign officials, the twins' spokeswoman, the first lady's press secretary and Republican National Committee officials went unreturned Wednesday. The remarks were written by Karen Hughes, a campaign aide told the Associated Press. And they were vetted by more than a dozen staffers, another campaign official said.
I'm sure somebody suggested Bush admit saying the "war on terror is unwinnable" too and admitting to "miscalculations" shortly before. And I'm sure that somebody vetted those speeches last night.
Face it, these are hardly genuises. They are obviously very good at making petty attacks, but on the big picture stuff, and for arguing for their guy, they are kind of spent.
Oh sure, Chimpy will be positive tonight (god, he better be) but after all this crap, who really thinks he can sell it, or that these guys can perpetuate it over two months?
If they win, it will not be because they sold their message.
