On the day following an interview where Bush shows himself to be an incredible shallow leader (yes, there's a newsflash...but still, to see it starkly laid out in print is amazing). And also, more importantly, on the day that Bush took the attitude that pulling out one of the tightest elections in American history absolves he and his enablers of responsibility for losing a war, the Herbert quote gives us some reason to be hopeful.
Never since his assassination in 1968 have I felt the absence of Martin Luther King more acutely. Where are today's voices of moral outrage? Where is the leadership willing to stand up and say: Enough! We've sullied ourselves enough.
I hope so. I'm a moody person, a hi-low type, and this morning is a low.
