There is something pathetic -- and yet utterly unsurprising -- about the official reader response to the
NYT's three-part series on civil commitment for sex offenders. Although it amounts to a
single letter written by what appears to be a
paraprofessional wingnut, it is, I fear, fairly representative of Americans' ability to think logically, respect constitutional principles, and solve problems (as opposed to deploy band-aids) in the face of fear.
