Thatcher was a true believer. She really thought that she could restore an island nation to its former imperial greatness, when virtually everyone else with a more sensible view of reality knew that, ever since about 1910, such was an impossible task, and if there were continuing illusions about that fact, there was Indian independence, when the British empire came to a shuddering halt in 1947.
Still, idiots like Thatcher--and Blair--persist in the belief and waste resources on little more than empty ambition. We could learn from Thatcher's mistakes, but, we won't.
well as Thatcher said, There is no such thing as Society. that should be Christian enough.
a very smart and evil woman. reminds me of the line from a play i read years ago. "the Good is interred with the bones, the Evil lives on." and boy was she evil. lol

Hear, hear, Montag. Many of the problems the UK and the US are facing today can be laid squarely at the feet of Thatcher and Reagan.
