If Reagan's death had prompted a similar response in this country, maybe we wouldn't be inundated with demands to put his face on the dime, or on Mt. Rushmore, or name every podunk elementary school after him.
The Brits have every harm she did etched in their collective memory. Here, I'm not sure most people even remember who Reagan was, let alone the damage he did.
In 1987 Thatcher said,
"They are casting their problems at society. And, you know, there’s no such thing as society. There are individual men and women and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look after themselves first."
She's been proven wrong once again, as today society is dancing on her grave, despite having utterly no financial interest in doing so.
Alas, enough of the Brit voters think what was wrong with her was that she was insufficiently classy. They've put the toffs back in charge and it's even worse.
lot's of aussies is conflicted. they don't need to be.
