Churlish hamster Grover Norquist nearly brought the U.S. to the brink of default three years ago, pressuring legislators with his "Taxpayer Protection Pledge" into a debt ceiling battle that was both dangerous and inane. This year, Norquist plans to attend Burning Man, which he sees as a stateless capitalist Utopia.

To which most of the Burning Man attendees will yawn, and hopefully, ignore him.
What amazes, though, is the breathlessness of this news: Grover Norquist is going to Burning Man!
The only sane response can be, "who gives a shit?" The only reason this gets any notice at all is that the National Journal feels compelled to rewrite one of Norquist's press releases.
Here's hoping that ol' Grover gets a severe case of dehydration and is sunburned to a crisp, and then run over by an art car.
can't we exile him to somalia?
"Burning Man is an annual festival of debauchery that takes place in the middle of the Nevada desert. Attendees, called "burners," often dress up in crazy costumes, waltz around naked, take copious amounts of illicit substances, and generally do whatever they want"...grover will probably bum the whole place out.
A stateless capitalist Utopia? You mean just like Somalia?
Urgency come to individual without any prior notice and in that situation if they are running wit shortage of cash they can go for the Speedy Cash Installment Loan that will provide them money in less time to get rid of the unexpected situation.

One might note that Somalia was not a happy place even when it had a "state". This meme is silly. Nor have "states" set up by colonial powers in Afrida worked very well inm many places. Human history ahs had a lot more experience with tribal systems and informal structures, and areas where said structures are still in place might better investigate them rather than trying to prop up some kleptocrat living off aid from the US (or the USSR in the old days).
Sure, tribal Somalia is awful. But so was central Europe during the centuries of brutal wars between states and empires.
Except that capitalism isn't allowed at Burning Man. Selling things is specifically against the code of conduct.
"Decommodification: In order to preserve the spirit of gifting, our community seeks to create social environments that are unmediated by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. We stand ready to protect our culture from such exploitation. We resist the substitution of consumption for participatory experience."
Dangit, only half of my C&P showed up. The other part of the code which is non-capitalist:
"Gifting: Burning Man is devoted to acts of gift-giving. The value of a gift is unconditional. Gifting does not contemplate a return or an exchange for something of equal value."
