Oh well, Kerry lost. The official political life in this country will look particularly grim for years to come. Iraq will surely turn into Viet Nam redux, the neocons headed by the Bush-gang and fully republican-dominated legislative branch will continue to brutalize the poor at home and wreak havoc abroad.
The liberal issues that are dear to us will be buried. My home state, btw, besides bringing the crown to Bush's feet overwhelmingly voted to prohibit gay marriages
On the other hand, the progressive activists should be heartened as
the sound victory of reaction will radicalize the working class and
bring about the possibility of a broad mass movement for change. Deep economic troubles will also help (the movement formation that is), but they'll hurt my retirement prospects (so please no).
I had one recurring thought during this election season. This Kerry
guy, however intelligent and eloquent he is, can't deliver a
half-decent speech. I was thinking that I, who can't politic for the life of me, if pressed, can articulate and deliver a far more moving speech. See even now, Kerry showing that he is no more than a smarter twin brother of Bush, meekly calls for nation's unity.
Why not pronounce a resounding defeat for liberal and progressive forces in this country that has just happened? Why not warn of the ominous things to come? Why not call for the formation of a grass-roots movement to start the next election campaign right now?
Anyway, what do I know? I am just a nerdy computer guy. All the best to you all. And let's brace ourselves for another four years. Hang on, here we go.
