Only in America

Not to demean the feat or anything, but only in America do we make the lead story the 25th Anniversary of the Space Shuttle and virtually ignore the fact that the same date is the 45th Anniversary of the first man into space, Yuri Gregarin Gagarin.

Exactly the kind of thing we used to accuse the Soviets of doing with history.

I'm a big fan of space exploration and the commander of that first Shuttle flight was John Young, one of the true pioneers of space travel, having not only flown the first shuttle flight (the ultimate for any test pilot) but also having visited the moon twice (Apollo 10 & 16) and flown the two Gemini flights, including the first flight as co-Pilot (Gus Grissom commanded it).

Nonetheless, c'mon the FIRST flight of all was Gagarin.
