Another Sign of Death

I remember over twenty years ago when I could not wait for Rolling Stone to arrive in my mailbox.  The reviews and lengthy interviews with musicians which gave me a deep sense of the music and the people making it.

But that was a long time ago.  That was when Rolling Stone mattered when they cared about music rather than what they have become which is a joke.   How long has it been since RS mattered?  Now RS profiles the latest fad, latest so-called "star," and has strived to be whatever the polling and demographic research told them they should be.  Heck, there are more ads than discussion of music.

So, we have this sign of death over at Rolling Stone.   How long has it been when a mainstream music magazine actually promoted music for its own sake instead of some sense of the magazine's own importance?  There are a few music mags that offer some great coverage of music... No Depression, Paste, a few others. Blender is one of them.

Joe Levy is defecting from Rolling Stone magazine, where he is executive editor, to take over as editor in chief at rival music mag Blender early next month.

What music magazines do you believe actually celebrate music?  Does anyone enjoy music coverage in Rolling Stone?
