Since 2001 the United States, meaning you, the taxpayer has given $11 billion to Pakistan. A healthy proportion of that money has funded Pakistani military and intelligence services.
And, are you getting what you pay for?
U.S. intelligence officials have concluded that elements of Pakistan's military intelligence service provided logistical support to militants who staged last month's deadly car bombing at the Indian Embassy in Afghanistan's capital, U.S. officials familiar with the evidence said yesterday. The finding, based partly on communication intercepts, has dramatically heightened U.S. concerns about long-standing ties between Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence agency, or ISI, and Taliban-allied groups that are battling U.S. forces in Afghanistan, according to two U.S. government officials briefed on the matter.
Of course, Pakistan remains a key hiding place for Al Qaeda and Taliban leaders. So we spend billions to stay in Afghanistan and billions to Pakistan to allegedly help us in the effort against terrorist groups. Which Pakistan then spends to help with terrorist attack in Pakistan working with Taliban leadership which operate out of their country.
Sounds like the kind of plan that could be put together only with the indirect assistance of the Bush Administration and endorsed by John McCain.
Good thing nobody ever gets called on to explain this. But that barbecue is sooooooooo good.
