So much for that whole "Sovereignty" deal

It seems just like last election I was hearing things like this:

US President George Bush celebrated the early transfer of political power to Iraqis, saying that "the Iraqi people have their country back."

So there should be no problem with this:

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki raised the prospect on Monday of setting a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops as part of negotiations over a new security agreement with Washington.

In fact, I think I've heard that would be just fine:

President Bush said in an interview on Thursday that he would withdraw American forces from Iraq if the new government that is elected on Sunday asked him to do so

"Sovereignty, what's that again?"

In a rebuff to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, the Pentagon said Monday that any timetable for a US withdrawal from Iraq would depend on conditions on the ground there.
