And need I remind you, these folks now

Constitute Mitt Romney's foreign policy advisers...
The direct warnings to Mr. Bush about the possibility of a Qaeda attack began in the spring of 2001. By May 1, the Central Intelligence Agency told the White House of a report that “a group presently in the United States” was planning a terrorist operation. Weeks later, on June 22, the daily brief reported that Qaeda strikes could be “imminent,” although intelligence suggested the time frame was flexible. But some in the administration considered the warning to be just bluster. An intelligence official and a member of the Bush administration both told me in interviews that the neoconservative leaders who had recently assumed power at the Pentagon were warning the White House that the C.I.A. had been fooled; according to this theory, Bin Laden was merely pretending to be planning an attack to distract the administration from Saddam Hussein, whom the neoconservatives saw as a greater threat. Intelligence officials, these sources said, protested that the idea of Bin Laden, an Islamic fundamentalist, conspiring with Mr. Hussein, an Iraqi secularist, was ridiculous, but the neoconservatives’ suspicions were nevertheless carrying the day.

And, we all know how that turned out.

In their defense, they were pretty busy making their own reality as a gift to the American people. That's hard, hard work.

Plus, that week The Deciderer was being extensively briefed on My Pet Goat for an upcoming State affair.

And, always looming in the background, brush clearing. A man's got to be constantly decidering about how to tackle the brush problem. Lest it get out of hand.

And then there's the brightness of the sun. It gets in your eyes at inconvenient moments.

And the moon. Does it always have to be changin'. Very distracting. Just stay bright. K?

And what about the tides? Who can explain that?

And.....

The New York Times, bravely reporting about 10 years too late.
History will not judge the Bush administration (or the NYT) kindly.

More proof that the competition for "stupidest fucking guy on the planet" in the Chimp Assministration was a highly competitive race.
Why anyone lets these ideologically-blinded, blustering assholes do anything but sit at home and eat paste is beyond me.

Conservatives can only hold one idea in their head at a time for each major category of policy, which they then pound home with the fervor of the dull-witted tribalist thug.

In 2001 it was "Saddam bad" in foreign policy, and "tax cuts" for economic policy (which still holds today).

The proposed solution for anything from rising soybean prices to an impending meteor strike will be channelled in the direction of their single simpleton idea.
