Who is Carl Webb?

Carl Webb is a soldier protesting illegal orders (the infamous Stop Loss program) to serve in Iraq beyond the length of his contract which ended in August 2004.

He refused to report for training with the Texas National Guard at Fort Hood and left Austin, Texas in August 2004 with the intent of eventually turning himself over to the military authorities.

Now he is spreading information about the problems created with the Stop Loss Program most notably on his website. Where people interested in military shenanigans can find more information.

In addition to spreading information about how the military operates, Webb is working with the counter-recruitment movement to keep members of the lower class and poor that military recruitment target out of the military by telling them the truth about the military.

Often, when Noam Chomsky speaks these days he speaks of what the US is doing in the world, following with the phrase "when I say the US, I mean YOU and I mean ME." It is OUR responsibility to force change. Suggesting that we "just wait," or that we can "just do our part" by writing another post about the cruel oppression of the Bush Regime may not be enough -- and this is also taking a position of great privilege -- most of us bloggers live very comfortable lives. And I know that I do. We do not have the privilege to "just wait" until conditions improve or Bush is out of office replaced, in my nightmares, by Bill Frist replaces Bush.

We applaud Carl Webb for his courage and his passion for informing the public in an unavoidable way of the Stop Loss program and the unfair targeting of children of the lower classes so that they can die in a meaningless mess in Iraq, Syria, or North Korea. Its the Army, Be all you can be... until you die for no good reason.
