The Philadelphia Inquirer (10-3-06) reported that the Republican National Congressional Committee (RNCC) ran an attack ad against Lois Murphy (Democratic challenger to Jim Gerlach Republican 6th Congressional District in PA) reporting that Murphy opposed a bill that would provide body armor for troops in Iraq. The source for this allegation was given as: "Source: Vote669, 12/19/2005."
How could she have voted if she is the challenger and not a member of Congress???
At least not yet.
When the Murphy campaign had Comcast pull the add the RNCC countered that the Murphy campaign sent out a press release on that date criticizing a bill that contained both funding for Irag and drilling in the Arctic. The intent of the press release was to object to the provision concerning the Arctic. Fortunately, the provision was eventually dropped.
This kind of misleading fear and smear attack ad is an indication of the vulnerability of Republican Gerlach, who will likely lose to Murphy in November. It is also a good example of what Republicans think of the truth.
