The Little Mengeles

Nearly five years after the initial revelations, and more than two years after the Red Cross issued a report (finally leaked in its entirety recently) the extent to which American medical officers enabled torture is still amongst the most stunning and depressing events of this whole war.

Right up with the Bush Administration fobbing the whole torture regime on the grunts -- and still getting the support of many in the military (I guess officers appreciate their ass being covered -- as long as the non-coms pay the price).

Health personnel offered supervision and even assistance as suspected al-Qaeda operatives were beaten, deprived of food, exposed to temperature extremes and subjected to waterboarding, the relief agency said in the 2007 report, a copy of which was posted on a magazine Web site yesterday. The report quoted one medical official as telling a detainee: "I look after your body only because we need you for information."

"Let all the poisons which lurk in the mud hatch out"
