And Ross Douhat's having a Times Column resembles something out of Swift

Insert joke here:

The narrative of the Iraq invasion, properly told, resembles a story out of Shakespeare.

Um, yeah.

"The Comedy of Errors"?
"As You Like It"?
"Much Ado about Nothing"?
"The Two Assholes of Texas"?

On the other hand, Ross's prose seems like something out of this.

I think more like McBeth...hubris, a dastardly act, madness and final, humiliating defeat....Bush should have read it before he listened to Cheney...Cheney's prophesies were like the three witches telling McBeth, "McBeth shall fear neither death nor bain 'til Burnham Wood comes to Dunsedane". It was, of course, a lie..just like "...we'll be greeted as liberators."

Douchehat complaining about one dimensional portrayals is rather rich as well. At last report, irony is on life support.

Whenever you see this, "... [when] properly told...," it's time to batten down the hatches and break out the rum.

What the fuck is Doubthat talking about?

Was Saddam Hussein starring in the role of Cleopatra, and Petraeus as Antony?

Or was a cast of millions playing Juliet, with George W. Bush as Romeo?

Oh, wait, I know... it's an ironic commentary on The Tempest... Dick Cheney is Prospero, and daughter Liz is Miranda. George Bush is Ariel, and Hussein is Caliban.

And everyone lives happily ever after, except for Caliban, who gets thrown off his island, and Prospero accepts the repentance and forgiveness of all with his famous speech, "Go Fuck Thy Selves."

A Modest Proposal that we have already enjoyed, our economy eating its fill of young Iraquis and willing young coalitionists at exhorbitant rates of accumulating debt.
Sated, we plan to leave soon, sorta

I vote for Othello...except no one really plays the protagonists' role to the bitter end.

When he figured out he had been lied to and had caused the death of an innocent, Othello had the grace to be embarassed.

Well, if anything, I would like to see Cheney dragged off to hear, "torments will ope thy lips."
