Our Degenerate Senate

It's hard to believe that killing this loophole is even controversial; but we're talking about the U.S. Senate, so actually, it's entirely believable.

What the hell is wrong with us?

Umm, nothing wrong with us, but, a whole helluva lot wrong with the system to which we elect people.

Many, many politicians, Democrats and Republicans alike, think that if they protect the wealthy, the wealthy will protect them.

It's pernicious, it's as obvious as a compound fracture, and it's not going away any time soon, because this sort of corruption is built into the system.

Whaddya mean "us", kemo sabe?

From the article: "that’s simple economics— those who benefit from the tax break have more money to lobby for it to be kept in place"

Man, the corruption is just killing us.

They didn't get there on their own. We put them there. And we let them stay without a peep. Chuck Schumer keeps getting re-elected. So do any other number of people who are unwilling to deal with this issue. We put them there.

I don't agree with this tax break but it isn't really a loophole and it doesn't result from nefarious dealings between politicians and lobbyists. Instead, it's a byproduct of "tax simplification" where all partnership interests get treated alike. The hedge fund managers figured out how to take advantage of that simplification. These situations are why the tax code is so long and complicated.
If we're going to line the bastards up against the wall and shoot them, we need to know the correct reason or else we'll succumb to the Palin/Teabagger idiocy !

It wasn't a loophole when it was written into the code in the'50s, but it sure as hell is a loophole now.

No kidding. Hey, I'm with ya on the frustration, and I have no answers except to fight the good fight and donate to the right people.

cognitive dissonance as a life style?

trillions for wall street but the unwashed masses are not even allowed a public option. premiums will still continue to rise even after the corporate health bill passes.

nothing will change until activists organize, fill the streets and shut down business.

but everybody is exhausted.
