There's got to be a morning after

Or mourning if you are the McCain campaign...but I guess they'll stay delusional until about 9 p.m. eastern on November 4 when McCain has the irony of using his special cell-phone tower in one of his houses at one of his compounds to call Barack Obama and congratulate the nation's President-Elect.

Meanwhile, three thoughts.

1. McCain started out this campaign with two bases, the enabling media and political independents who thought he wasn't beholden to GOP orthodoxies. The debates have shown that while he has managed to keep a tenuous hold on the punditry, he's lost the political independents. When you keep David Broder at the cost of millions of votes, you're doing it wrong.

2. How do you get an hour and a half of free air time to sell yourself as a great human being with a gracious opponent and manage to walk away even less well liked? You're doing it wrong.

3. Congratulations to Philadelphia, not only are you the Motown of Progressive Blogging, you are the National League Champs. And when you send your unpopular VP choice out in front of Philadelphians at a sporting event, you're doing it wrong.
