Punish Lieberman -- and if he stays in the Senate, that's fine -- but why not reward ourselves by taking the quicker way out?

Surely there's an Ambassadorship somewhere that the Ol' Holy One could occupy or a Department he could look like he ran, while the more reliable Deputy does the real work.

That way, he's out and an actual Democrat takes his place far sooner than 2004.

It's called the Simon Cameron method.

There is a large flaw in my plan. I don't know what the rules are for appointments in Connecticut, but I forgot the state has a Republican Governor, Jodi Rell. So, perhaps, never mind.
