One little tradition ended

Hot on the heels of the "Guiding Light" being cancelled, CBS is cancelling "As the World Turns". Enjoy some completely expected character description:

"It's a hell of a Christmas present," said actress Eileen Fulton, who will mark 50 years playing the character Lisa Grimaldi on the show. Her character has been through nine marriages and Fulton was hoping for a 10th before the signoff.

This was always my mother's soap opera -- it was also the favorite soap opera of one of my grandmothers (hell, now that I think about it both grandmothers), who seemed sure these were real people. Of course, my grandmother was cancelled and sent into "Syndication in the Sky" about 18 years ago so maybe she was right.
