I'm glad that you, y'know, reported on the departure of combat troops from Iraq...God forbid FoxNews do it.
But the 50,000 support troops left hardly indicate a withdrawal, nor John McCain do they denote a 'Victory' that any political leader deserves credit for. Nor, MSNBC talking heads are the 50,000 troops left, just like the troops we have left in Germany. The latter can pretty much stroll about Germany on their off-duty hours with their biggest threat being too much sausage and beer -- obviously lacking in Iraq and their LEAST of their worries in the latter.

Not that many IEDs and suicide bombers on the streets of Wiesbaden and Munich these days, either (even during the days of the Red Army Brigade, they didn't have quite that sort of problem).
Nor are the Bavarians and the Rhinelanders in the midst of a civil war for control of a very shaky government.
If anyone's making comparisons of Iraq with Germany, they're being very, very silly.
how about japan, then.
Look, if the Obama administration wants to call leaving 50,000 troops in Iraq a withdrawl, who are we to argue? Especially considering that the 50,000 troops are designated as "Advisors" and not as "Combatants" or "Killer Soldier Death Legions". See? Problem solved!
I have a suggestion, though. How about we redefine "The Taliban" as "Muhajadeen Freedom Fighters", then we can declare victory in Afghanistan and come home?

We have over 50,000 military personel still deployed in Germany. 65 years after WW2.
Iraq is going very well in comparison. Only seven and a half years after the invasion and we're already reducing to 50,000 troops. In other words... we're doing very well in Iraq and the loser defeatists are writhing in agony because of it.
how about japan, then.
We have over 25,000 troops still remaining in Japan. The US has military personel in something like 150 countries. We're (the US) essentially in charge of the entire planet.
Iraq is doing very well in comparison? Really? From D-Day to the defeat of Germany was how long? And after the defeat of Germany, did our troops hunker-down on bases and serve as support units for the German army in combat missions? Did the same thing happen in Japan? OnA clearly studied some pretty shitty history books.

As usual DanF can pretty much be relied upon to provide us with false premise.
US still has 50,000 military personel in Germany, 65 years after. That's the occupation phase that can be compared to Iraq. 65 years vs 7.
If we were talking about the actual combat phase there would be an entirely different comparison. That comparison would be the 6 years (4 years, US) it took the allies to win the combat phase against Germany -- vs what? -- a paltry few weeks it took the US led coalition to win the combat phase in Iraq.
Soooo....just to recap:
Germany, combat phase -- 6 years
Iraq, combat phase -- 3 weeks
Germany, occupation phase -- 65 years (to date)
Iraq, occupation phase -- 7 and a half years (to date)
In other words, our derisive victory in Iraq took about the same span of time as it takes me to change my underwear.
You mean "decisive" victory in
Iraq, Mr B&N?
By the way......not changing your underwear for three weeks might explain your disturbing lack of friends.....
....just sayin'....
