That today and the next several days at the Williams' residence, Juan's family is following him around in "Muslim Garb" just to fuck with him.

I'm glad that Williams is getting canned for his insensitive and stupid comments, but come on....
Of all the TV/print airbags who have made disparaging comments about Muslims in recent years (O'Reilly, Hannity, Peretz, Coulter), why is he the only one to have faced any serious consequences?
that was a lousy write up from the times. they totally missed the context of juan arguing that despite his own personal discomfort (with the garb more so than people), that's no excuse to deny people their constitutional rights. isn't that a useful (and needed) argument to make? we will never be able to erase a bigoted person's bias, but people can be convinced that even if they don't like a certain group of people, that their constitutional rights deserve to be protected. this could be seen reflected in the polls which showed while a majority didn't like the idea of a mosque so near to ground zero, a majority supported their right to do so.
juan later pointed to the danger of this culture being so intolerant by pointing to the muslim cabbie who was stabbed in the neck. while hard to do with oreilly interrupting him all the time, he also tried to argue that it's wrong to blanket all muslims as terrorists or extremists. NPR just heard the first part of juan's exchange and didn't care about the rest of the context. just like shirley sherrod.
williams just followed the money trail over to fox for a 2Mill contract, I think I heard. His family would wear nothing at all around the house for that. Libruls frighten so easily, esp. libruls in safe houses like npr. vox, preferring the streets of France to this crap.

At least you wouldn't see Juan Williams in France. He's no Josephine Baker.
