And in ghouishly predicted news

Earlier this week the State of Ohio's decision to "experiment with death for profit...and FUN!" was discussed. Well, today the full extent of the "fun" was unleashed to completely foreseeable and blithely ignored results.
A condemned Ohio inmate appeared to gasp several times and took more than 15 minutes to die Thursday as he was executed with a combination of drugs never before tried in the U.S. Death row inmate Dennis McGuire made several loud snorting or snoring sounds during one of the longest executions since Ohio resumed capital punishment in 1999.
Yes, Mr. McGuire was a convicted murderer and by general universal acclaim a horrible human being. But he was still a human being, and this pointless use of an untried method causing a prolonged and terrible death was even more pointless than usual.

On the other hand, for proponents of the death penalty it was a great form of erotica.

Kent Scheidegger Esq., legal director for the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation and Teabagger Extraordinaire for the Federalist Society, sez:

“O.K., I’ve made snoring noises. What’s not disputed is he got a large dose of sedative. We’ve gotten namby-pamby to the point that we give murderers sedatives before we kill them.”

What kind of horrifyingly perverse private life a guy like Kent Scheidegger Esq. must have. Eew.

Atta, I don't know...

this is very similar to how my brother died, when he was taken off life support after an aneurysm bled in his brain, and left him without hope of recovery.

Under my brother's circumstances, this was viewed as a peaceful death. It did not take 15 minutes, however, but 3 hours. For us it was traumatic, but he felt nothing.

As long as the sedatives were strong enough to knock him (the condemned) out, I don't see how I should view one as peaceful and humane and the other as cruel.

Without getting into the morality (or lack thereof) of the death penalty, one has to remember that, at some point, EVERY method of execution was "untried"... hanging, electrocution, gas chamber, lethal injection, firing squad, drowning, burning at the stake, stoning, drawing and quartering, beheading, all of them.

But I have to second what Pansypoo said, I really have no sympathy for this guy, nor for the other Ohio inmate fighting lethal injection because he's afraid of needles. You know, guys, there was one simple way of avoiding this whole dilemma... DON'T RAPE AND KILL PEOPLE (the second jerkwad's victim was his girlfriend's three-year-old daughter).

I still don't see why we don't just pull heroin from the evidence locker and OD these bastards. Quick burst of euphoria then nothing.

(Rassafrassin Firefox ate the first copy, so I had to re-do it in Exploder...)
