I suppose I could dig up the number of times Bush or someone from his administration has predicted the "last throes", but I'll leave that to someone else.

Rice yesterday:

THE US predicts war-torn Iraq will transform into a stable and secure nation within the next couple of years.

While the country is wracked by insurgent activity at present, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says that will change.

"There is a very good chance that the Iraqis, with the support of their coalition partners, will have built the foundation for a stable and secure Iraq over the next couple of years," she said in Sydney after a meeting with Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.

Wait a minute, Australia's Foreign Minister is named Downer?

Why can't we have one of those, it would be so appropo.
