More death in Baghdad

In the last couple of weeks, a major spin meme was that criticism of The Surge was emboldening the enemy. That makes more arresting this sentence from the AP wire report on the Baghdad market suicide bombing (which drew a rare Saturday condemnation from the White House) --

Suspected Sunni attackers have appeared emboldened in recent weeks after radical anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, under pressure from fellow Shiites who dominate the government, ordered the thousands of gunmen in his Mahdi Army militia to avoid American attacks in the coming assault.

Thus the lead-in to the The Surge is going to demonstrate how ineffective the government it's designed to prop up actually is. The Senate should risk a little more "emboldening."
