Looks like my "Strongman" thesis is going to get a workout

I have stated a few times that the Republican base loves "authoritarians" more than they love their policies.

Looks like Rudy is setting out a marker to test that thesis early:

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.

Now there are still some Republicans that are pro-choice, though that is getting rarer all the time, and since Ford there hasn't been a serious Republican contender for the nomination that has supported Roe v. Wade. Public funding for abortions is another level of intensification on the scale.

I'm sure "Rudy-World" will be spinning this one for all they're worth, but it seems a rather hard thing to spin.

The GOP social-conservative base does have with it an incredibly streak for loving a Franco-type and few have ever filled that position better than Giuliani. All you have to do is watch FoxNews (no small request) to see the nightly parade of quasi-fascism and 'cult of personality' desire.
