This could finally be the breakthrough those of us concerned with free Internet radio have wanted. The efforts by some in the recording industry to add staggering royalty rates to Internet Radio may be stopped by legislation which is on its way to the White House for a signature. The U.S. House and Senate have cleared the road "for a potential agreement intended to save the emerging Internet radio market from a crippling hike in copyright royalty rates." Rates that could have eaten up over seventy percent of broadcasters budgets! While details are still being worked out, this could save the lives of progressive and non-commercial Internet radio stations.
Could it be that Congress has done the right thing here?
