Baghdad was hit by at least six explosions within the space of a few minutes today as a series of devastating attacks hit the Iraqi capital.

Early estimates suggested the number of casualties was high. The attacks are believed to have been co-ordinated, and demonstrate that insurgents maintain the ability to carry out spectacular bombings at will.
