The gauntlet was thrown down last week when an "unnamed official" told the Washington Post that Snow was welcome to stay "provided it was not very long." Bush upped the ante on the unnamed source by keeping Snow in the cabinet despite widespread rumors he would "resign" soon. "That'll show him," Bush was overheard saying.
The grumbling surprised many, despite Snow's apparent ineffectiveness, becasue unlike Snow's predecessor, Paul O'neill who was known for plain talk and honestly expressing his opinions about economic issues both inside and outside the White House,
Snow traversed the country in the months before the election, praising Bush's tax cuts and touting economic growth.
In other words, spouting some old fasioned longhorn manure. And he did it with a straight face.
Snow raised eyebrows, however, when he said in Ohio that the job losses on Bush's watch were a myth. The claim drew heavy fire from Democrats
Snow was valued, in part, becasue while others eyebrows raised in horror at his ludicrous statements, his brow remained fixed in a manic glare reminiscent of Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
