Judge Roberts on Women

From our friends at Consortiumnews.com comes word that the media's annointed best looking justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, mocked the fight for equal pay and compensation that many women and some men fought for in the 1970s and 1980s -- hard times for anyone interested in the rights of workers of any gender.

I have to agree with Consortiumnews that how men reacted to this social movement for women's rights was a test of their morals and character, pure and simple. Should people of equal ability be paid equally for the same work or not?

Furthermore whether these men supported changes in the work place that addressed historical inequities and injustices tells us a great deal about them. It is a peek into how they see the world.

And when the nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court with the "best looks" had a chance to help shape policy on equal pay for women from inside Ronald Reagan's White House in a non-sexist way, he likened an equal-pay strategy to communism, with the quip -- "to each according to her gender." Sounds pretty damn sexist to me.

Good grief. The more I hear about this guy the nastier I think he is. Because of the way the media has obsessed with his "appearance and demeanor," he is more like a wolf in sheep's clothing than a talented judge. The important question is: Will anyone begin to put all the pieces of the puzzle together and see this guy for what he is while we can still do something about it?
