Truthiness, Stranger than Fiction

So how much is Colbert kicking himself for not landing Mark Foley on "Better know a District"?

Oh, the bizarre twists of fate you find on the "tubes", AUGUST 2, 2006:

Here’s something else U.S. Reps. Mark Foley and Robert Wexler can disagree on: Foley says he has no intention of letting Stephen Colbert make a fool of him on national television.

The Fort Pierce Republican says he has turned down repeated requests to do an interview with Colbert, the host of Comedy Central’s popular faux-talk show “The Colbert Report.”...

...Foley says he doesn’t understand why representatives keep appearing on the show.

“It trivializes the job,” he says, adding of Colbert: “You can’t outsmart him. He’s a very funny guy.”

Asked by a reporter to complete the sentence “I enjoy cocaine because …,” Foley responded: “I don’t.”

And in the department of commenters WISHING they could take things back, in that story's comment section comes this:

Foley always seems to have the best instincts. Our Congressmen have better things to do than waste their time on shows like the Colbert Report. Don’t we have a war in Iraq, high gas prices, an illegal immigration problem and many other issues to deal with? Thankfully, Foley is focusing on his job instead of this sillyness.

Oops.
