Chris Matthews just implied that modern warfare is much harder on soldiers than wars have ever been before because they are under so much more stress. He called it a "constant booby-trap" because they might be killed by an IED. Cliff Van Zandt agreed that this is worse than soldiers commonly experience.
Not to discount the misery of what members of the military have to undergo in multiple deployments and the difficult job they have to do.
But how anyone can even contemplate uttering this thought is stupefying.
We could throw out a million examples from Alexander's driving his troops from Greece to India on foot to the American Civil War soldier leaving the front ranks of walking into muzzle-fire then being told to "bite this stick while I saw your arm off" to miserable trench warfare in WWI to the many various and sundry "Death Marches" of WWII.
Just asinine beyond belief. It's all some fucking game to them -- the villagers -- involving these bizarre "commoners" who must be put into categories while they deal with the "important stuff". They lay out the parameters, the "need" to do something, everyone else is just a tool for application. Oh, you'll get some empty platitudes, but if you die, well the only skin they have in the game is making seven-figures and getting invited to cocktail parties where they are praised for their "seriousness".
"War is Hell" wasn't a saying invented a couple years ago Tweety.
