I think we've found a new head of the MMS.
Not to go all Charles Pierce here (because, after all, he's a professional) but Curt Schilling has apparently confused the umpire with his unrequited love for George Bush.
The second reason was Jim Joyce does not -- and will not -- deserve 99 percent of the stupid things people will say about him in the coming days. Jim Joyce is, and always has been, an exceptional umpire and a fantastic guy.

Schilling is a goddam fucking douchebag.
Shilling IS a d-bag, but in interviews I saw this morning, Joyce seemed like a stand-up guy. He took complete responsibility for screwing up "the biggest call of my career". Would Bush, Cheney, et al. ever admit to such? I think not.
No time for Joyce, I'm still trying to get over Denkinger in '85.
I thought Galarrraga's initial response to the call (a wry smile) and his gracious interviews immediately after the game spoke volumes about what a class guy he is. Removing his athletic talent from the equation, he's an impressive person.

just another reason why baseball sux. Reason number two is that both Doris Kearns GoodPlagerizer and George Will like it. However, Fenway Park is a great place to drink beer and make believe you give a shit about whatever it is they are doing in the grass.
