When the nation's Senate Majority Leader, in essence, signs onto a campaign of racial and religious discrimination initiated and fostered by the clinically paranoid, megalomaniacal, religiously delusional wife of a Long Island used car dealer, we really have touched bottom at the deep end of the shit pool.
After years and years now of being wrong each time I figured that this [fill in the then-latest and most hacktacular Republican/corporate media outrage] was as low as they could go and that they finally had touched bottom, I'm pretty sure this isn't it either.
No matter how absurd and how awful -- did you know that Pam Geller put forward as a supposed fact that Malcolm X was Barack Obama's father? No joke. But it doesn't stop her having Serious Media Cred -- no matter how patently ridiculous and no matter how destructively anti-American their latest horrible campaign, they'll exceed themselves again later on down the line. Usually within a week or two.
Family members are planning to spend the rest of their lives in other countries. I can't really come up with a good argument against that any more, other than the practical one (what country is going to accept such a poor and old specimen of American refugee as me? All the museums will be full of similar but less threadbare exhibits).
And in a couple of weeks, they'll come up with some other incredibly bone-headed bassackwards FoxNewsOutrage and Our Nation's Greatest Journalists will all gather 'round and sing Oops, I Did It Again.
But it doesn't stop her having Serious Media Cred -- no matter how patently ridiculous and no matter how destructively anti-American their latest horrible campaign, they'll exceed themselves again later on down the line.
When it's all said and done, it will be ratings and profit (pandering to the lowest common denominators) that will have killed the republic.
