I like looking at a modestly lit Christmas Tree. It's pristine shape, its willowy limbs outstretched, the subtle shades of supple colors draw me to it and it won't resist my advances...which soothes my anxious fear of rejection. and I've had nothing to light me up! vox
I don't know but I remember being very young and just sitting on the floor staring at the tree and lights amongst the hub bub of a house full of people. My parents always took us for drives to see other people's lights during December in the 60's - cheap entertainment. I noticed that this year near me there were not a lot of lit up houses and it was depressing. Lights, colorful or white, shouting out against the darkest nights are soothing and hopeful. When no one bothers to put them out and light them up, then we are all hurting.

One profound question deserves another: why is it soothing to be half-lit looking at a Christmas tree?
