A Standard & Poor’s director said for the first time Thursday that one reason the United States lost its triple-A credit rating was that several lawmakers expressed skepticism about the serious consequences of a credit default — a position put forth by some Republicans.

Yeah, but who ya gonna believe, an S&P official and Politico or the Lord's own words channeled through Michelle Bachmann and the Teavangelicals?

Well, apart from all the other insanity going on, S&P's reason has an overwhelming odor of "told you so," rather than sound accounting.
