But what people recognize is that there's a fear that the United States is in an unstoppable decline. They see the rise of China, the rise of India, the rise of the Soviet Union and our loss militarily going forward.
Poor, poor conservatives. For an ideology that depends on a fear and hate storyline simple enough to be followed by morons, the loss of their favorite scapegoat was a terrible sadness in the early 90s. How they long for the Manichean simplicity of St. Reagan and the Soviet Devil.
They soon made up for it by transferring their volcanic displaced hate to the Clintons, until 9/11 thankfully provided them with a new all-purpose bogeyman/excuse.
