Turns out Twittertrends measures change and not volume. If a topic has a high pre-existing volume then it will score below a topic which goes from zero to something.
In other words: StonyPillow - snark. It really is about the derivatives.
Otherwise the 'trend' would be Ashton and Gaga every fucking day.
