This does undermine his "heroism" more than a little bit

I'm always leery of stories that focus on the individual over the actions and policies being debated...but this is not exactly a statement that places one in a heroic position.

Edward Snowden has admitted he deliberately went to work for the US intelligence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton in order to harvest highly classified evidence of the National Security Agency (NSA) surveillance programs that he hoped to expose.

"My position with Booz Allen Hamilton granted me access to lists of machines all over the world the NSA hacked. That is why I accepted that position about three months ago," he told Hong Kong's South China Morning Post during an interview on June 12 that was published on Tuesday.

That certainly is a comforting fact on how well private contractors do in maintaining security of their snooping operations doesn't it?

If you want to hunt ducks, you go to where the ducks are. If his previous job hinted at abuse, he went to where he could get some proof. Maybe his motives were pure, and maybe they weren't, but so what? He started the conversation we we were supposed to have ten years ago.

There are no perfect vessels.

Great hunting analogy. Similarly, if you want to find turds you get in the sewer. What did you think, the NSA was going to out itself??
