I mean, its nice that they endorse Kerry, but an asshole is an asshole. Perhaps they could form "Misogynists for Kerry" because that would seem appropriate.
First Kaus and then Sullivan post the "out of context" freeper wet dream John Kerry quote of the day:
"But for the moment, what we are doing, I think, is having its impact and it is the best way to protect our troops and sort of minimalize the proximity, if you will. I think we have been doing this pretty effectively and we should continue to do it that way." - John Kerry, discussing the tactic of outsourcing the capture of Osama bin Laden to local warlords at the time. (Hat tip: Mickey.)
But even the fucking link to that statement, being provided, they don't bother to ACTUALLY read the thing. After all, that would require some sense of journalism skills.
CALLER: Hello. Yes, I would like to ask the panel why they don't use napalm or flamethrowers on those tunnels and caves up there in Afghanistan?
KING: Senator Kerry?
CALLER: My golly, I think they could smoke him out.
KING: Senator Kerry?
KERRY: Well, I think it depends on where you are tactically. They may well be doing that at some point in time. But for the moment, what we are doing, I think, is having its impact and it is the best way to protect our troops and sort of minimalize the proximity, if you will. I think we have been doing this pretty effectively and we should continue to do it that way.
KING: Congressman Cunningham, what do you think of that question?
CUNNINGHAM: I think Senator Kerry is right on the mark. To use a flamethrower, you've got to get right into the area close in. And plus, it doesn't penetrate that deep in those tunnels. You've got to go in there after him. So I think you have to neutralize that threat. And then you can get him out in a lot of different, various ways including what the gentleman spoke about.
KING: General Joulwan, what are your thoughts?
JOULWAN: Well, I think what you are seeing here are laser- designated bombs going in that are highly effective. In fact, I think much more effective than napalm will be given the extent of these tunnels. You may see some of this when the troops get in there, you have troops on the ground. But right now, I think the laser- designated bombs are doing a great job.
Kerry is responding to a question about why ... "why they don't use napalm or flamethrowers on those tunnels and caves up there in Afghanistan?"
Not about WHY they are using troops from Afghan warlords.
Hence lies the difference between idiocy of the right and the irony on the left. The right uses out of context quotes as some sort of TRUTH it doesn't show. When Bush makes his many malaprops the left uses them, appropriately for mockery. It isn't that hard fellas.
But such is the talent of Mickey Kaus and Andrew Sullivan...well, the lack thereof.
I assume Instahack will repeat the talent soon, if he hasn't already, on the same quote.
Of course, Sullivan's misogyny comes out shortly thereafter:
SHUT HER UP: Are the Kerry people still allowing the loopy Teresa to give uncontrolled interviews? Are they out of their minds? Or does she have that much control over her husband and the campaign? She's a walking gaffe.
You know Sully, being gay does not mean you have to HATE women, it just means you don't want to have sex with them. Is it really necessary this be explained to you?
With supporters like these, who needs supporters.
I have no real idea what the hell Imus is doing, I don't watch him, but I'm sure he'll be all over this shit too, it's what he does.
